As part of the project to revitalize and reposition Place Ville-Marie

Place Ville-Marie (PVM) and its buildings possess heritage value as a "building of interest" in downtown Montreal. The major revitalization and repositioning project aimed at energizing the downtown core required the input of several architectural and engineering firms, as well as a multitude of professionals. The project includes a complete renovation and partial modification of the façades of PVM 2, 3, and 4, the transformation of the esplanade and the shopping arcade, and the construction of a monumental staircase from McGill College Street.
COHÉSIO Architecture worked on modifying the façades and replacing the stone and windows of buildings 2, 3, and 4 at PVM. The PVM building renovation project had numerous connections with the esplanade revitalization project. While the general outline of the repositioning project had been established, the construction management required the development of concepts and technical details, as well as accelerated coordination. With the exception of the entrances, the technical solutions developed had to maintain the building's original appearance. We collaborated with the project team, comprised of Sid-Lee, MSDL, NCK, BPA , and Pomerleau, to produce the technical documents necessary for implementing the conceptual designs developed by these firms.
Thus, new facade areas and access points from the esplanade and adjacent streets were designed and constructed, updating the route to the modern buildings. The project was subject to a very tight construction schedule considering the quantity and complexity of the interventions involved in the critical path of several stages of the repositioning project.
