In 2018, the Montréal Youth Centre initiated the conversion of former administrative offices into welcoming bedrooms and living spaces in order to provide rehabilitation and support services to a young clientele facing difficulties. This redevelopment of Wing C of the Centre jeunesse Dominique-Savio Mainbourg enabled the creation of two living units totaling approximately ten bedrooms within an area of about 800 m².
COHESIO Architecture proposed an optimized spatial organization integrating living areas such as the living room, kitchen, dining room and bathrooms, as well as administrative zones within the limited footprint of the building. During the design and construction phases, the team adopted a participatory and inclusive approach, placing future users at the center of the design process. Interactive workshops were organized with the youth to allow them to select a unique colour palette, both soft and vibrant, reflecting the identity of the centre while fostering a sense of belonging.
Through a flexible and collaborative process, the COHESIO Architecture team was able to respond quickly to the evolving needs of the residents by adapting the units during construction without compromising costs or project timelines.
